A helicopter display on Saturday night in Cowes appeared to provide the perfect distraction for an opportunist art thief.
Kendalls Fine Art in Bath Road were holding a private view of a new exhibition and at around 7pm, a helicopter display lured many of those attending out on to the street.
Once the display was over and everyone had returned inside, those working at the gallery noticed that a painting had been taken from the wall.
Worth £1,200
The oil painting by Stephen Renard, Yankee, Endeavour and Britannia 1936, is 20 by 29cm and is valued at £1,200.
