Condutor Jonathan Butcher at March 2015 IWSO concert by Allan Marsh

Last few tickets for Symphony Orchestra concert this weekend

Thanks to Tim for this reminder about the Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra concert this Saturday. Ed

The Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra start their new season with a concert this Saturday (14th November) at the Medina Theatre starting at 7.15pm.

Portsmouth Point
The concert will open with the energetic overture to Portsmouth Point by William Walton. This is quite an apt opening as Portsmouth is so near to the Island.

The orchestra will then be joined by regular soloist Alexander Sitkovetsky for a performance of the ever popular Violin Concerto No.1 by Max Bruch. This work often appears in the Classic FM Hall of Fame.

The orchestra are looking forward to welcoming back Mr Sitkovetsky after his spell-binding performance of the Sibelius concerto last season.

Mahler’s 1st Symphony
After the interval there will just be the one work, the massive 1st Symphony by Gustav Mahler, known as the Titan.

This symphony contains wonderful music but calls for a very large orchestra.
