Salisbury-based artist Laurence Dubé-Rushby opens her latest exhibition at the Hop Kilns Heritage Centre at Briddlesford Lodge Farm on the Isle of Wight at the end of the week.
This will be Briddlesford’s second visual art exhibition since the opening of their newly restored Hop Kilns in November 2014.
Guided by a childlike curiosity, she explores the notion of life and death in the farming context. Through bonding with the herd and following the cycle of the daily farm routine at Briddlesford, she uses a playful combination of pinhole images, basic animations, audio materials and animal skins to present new narratives, where the edges between humans and animals are blurred.
Free family drop-in
Families are also welcome to drop-in on Saturday 7th March, 11am – 1pm to create low-tech animation devices, such as zoetropes and thaumatropes, to animate images of cows and people to complete the installation with the artist.
The restoration of the Hop Kilns have been supported by The Heritage Lottery Fund. The commissioned artworks have been supported by the Arts Council of England.
The exhibition will continue daily until Sunday 31st May 2015.
