An East Cowes man has been found guilty of breaching a restraining order against an Isle of Wight councillor and using threatening or abusive behaviour
The detective constable said, “The level of violence perpetrated by Hetherington was appalling, and I hope his conviction sends a strong message to our communities that violence is simply unacceptable, and there are serious consequences for those that harm others in this way”
The councillor from Wootton was found guilty of two counts of rape of a girl under the age of 14, when he would have been aged between 13 and 15-years-old
The alleged victim has been giving evidence at the Isle of Wight Crown Court where she said that the councillor had taken her virginity without consent when they were both children
The Police and Crime Commissioner claims that "The public have had enough" and backs plans to increase stop and search powers and the use of banning orders
