Letter: Help our community save Wroxall Primary School

OnTheWight always welcomes a Letter to the Editor to share with our readers – unsurprisingly they don’t always reflect the views of this publication. If you have something you’d like to share, get in touch and of course, your considered comments are welcome below.

This from a “directly-affected Parent with two children who love Wroxall Primary School”. Ed

We have just submitted our response to the latest Isle of Wight council school places consultation regarding the impact the threat of closure to Wroxall Primary School is having on children/parents and the surrounding communities.

We feel this needs to be highlighted to show the true impact of what is being dealt to us by the local authority.

Help us Save Our School
We want people to help us Save Our School, as we only have our children’s best interests at heart and of course the heritage of the school which has been established since 1873.

We will not let the council use our children’s well-being and mental health as a game of facts and figures.

Nowhere to go
Our children really do have nowhere to go should Wroxall Primary School close. We believe the schools are already at full capacity and are unsuitable for every child. The current Year 5 students have nowhere to go for Year 6, they start high school in 2027!

Where are they going to be prepared and learn for their SATS exams? Where can they go? Will they lose their friendships?

Their mental health is suffering and has since Covid-19 – their education has already been taken away due to Lockdown!

Surplus places will triple
The council think they are reducing surplus places, but we believe they will triple as most will have no choice but to home-educate should Wroxall Primary close.

We believe the council are breaching our children’s human rights.
