Letter: Politicians voting on airstrikes should consider ‘The Day After’

We always welcome a Letter to the Editor to share with our readers – unsurprisingly they don’t always reflect the views of this publication. If you have something you’d like to share, get in touch and of course, your considered comments are welcome below. This from Lucia Para. Ed

More and more every day. listening to the news, it seems quite clear that the shadow of a war is real as much as it has been in the past, and at this present time, the war technology would make it a nuclear conflict.

In fact, there have just been placed 20 bombs from America in Germany, in addition to all the others that already are in the European countries, 90 of which in Italy alone, enough to destroy the whole Northern Hemisphere of the Earth.

The Day After
There is a film, The Day After (1983), directed by Nicholas Meyer, which at that time was produced in the US and broadcasted around the world to give an idea of what this nuclear reality is about.

Watching it, the director puts attention on many social reaction and panic situations, that knowing of a nuclear war creates in towns, supermarkets, streets, and all the act of violence that fear produces.

And most of all, he shows the catastrophic effects of that kind of explosions, where nobody wins, there is only death left.

I think that politicians and armed forces should have a look to this to understand and change their thinking towards peace.

For those wanting to watch the film you can see it below.
