On behalf of the residents of Lake and district I am writing to express our grateful thanks for the good work the Water Company are doing at the base of Lake Hill.
With the days of last summer drifting by we had become sadly resigned to having the entire season pass without a single trench or temporary traffic light appearing to block the shopping centre and thereby promote the annual good natured banter twixt driver and digger, pedestrian and lorry.
We should perhaps have had more faith.
Sure enough, just as all appeared lost, the Water Company appeared to set up camp in what is perhaps the most strategic spot of all.
So now we can, after all, enjoy the joyful chat and laughter of visitor, commuter and local alike as they exchange views and compliments one to another.
Thank you Water Company. You’ve restored our faith in the routines and rhythms of the Island.
Just one criticism if I may – you don’t cause quite enough delay to make it worth while a tea and coffee stall setting up. Perhaps you can take that point more into consideration next time.
In the meantime, thanks once again.
May you never run out of road.
Yours in admiration, Ron Chonner
