This from Hazel W ( a Wroxall Parent). Ed
I would like to share a sincere heartfelt thank you on behalf of us as parents, our children, our communities, our schools and wonderful staff who are currently a priority subject for potential closures by the school place planning proposals.
It is wonderful to see that we have finally after all this endless heartache, worry and stress over our children’s current and future education, the impact and consequences we have been forced to face around losing our wonderful schools have finally been heard, respected and most importantly understood.
Our thanks for the support
It’s taken a long time to be recognised over this very difficult and frustrating situation, but so many of us have come together united from what was a vast crowd of “strangers”. To see that the:
- Full Island Council,
- Scrutiny Committee,
- IOW Education Union,
- NASUWT,
- The Diocese of Portsmouth
- Parish councillors
- and our own Island MP Joe Robertson
- Island and Mainland Media Services (For Sharing our voices, thoughts, feeling and our causes!)
For all supporting us against the jeopardy of our children’s educational wellbeing and mental health speaks volumes. We have not been shouting for the hell of it, we have all been standing with our feet firmly in the ground to protect our schools and our children’s education, their developing career skills and happiness and friendships. The well-being of our day-to-day duties, our employment and our finances are all part of our existence on being an Island resident. What we pay taxes for!
Only one family of many to be affected
I am one of many parents who want to protect our children’s educational wellbeing and mental being and most importantly their childhood innocence. I am a proud parent of Wroxall Primary School and without a doubt I stand by in opposition to the closure of this wonderful primary school.
My two children have no availability for an alternative school in September 2025 should Wroxall mistakenly be forced to closure. The cabinet will 100 per cent be cancelling all education for my children on the Isle of Wight with a closure decision! That is two Island children out of how many subjected to these proposals?
My children need their school as much as it is needed by its community.
Finally feeling acknowledged
The Scrutiny Committee’s very recent meeting (4th Mar 2025) has all helped us feel more at ease and finally acknowledged. And the potential of Judicial Review is music to our ears by The Diocese of Portsmouth.
So many of us united in doing what is right for our children not for a possible corporate financial incentive. We do not have to take this railroaded process. Our children are not collateral damage.
Thank you.
