Dave and Serena from The Friends of the Isle of Wight Library Service appeal for your memories or photos of Island libraries. Ed
In view of the wide support we have received, it has become apparent that there is a lot of interest in our Island Libraries.
We have decided to try and collect photographs and memories as a permanent record of all 11 libraries.
Appeal for library memorabilia
This is an appeal for anyone with old photographs, especially of the building/opening of any of the libraries, memories of events that have taken place in the libraries, newspaper cuttings, in fact anything to do with the libraries, we would love to see and copy your photographs, or you could send them as digital images, and your memories as typed text.
This is important to us, and we are sure many other Islanders so that in years to come the information will not have been lost.
George Brown on-side
We have asked for permission from Cllr George Brown to take photographs inside of all 11 libraries, plus the outsides, he has expressed his approval but obviously has to consult his colleagues.
Any budding photographers like to volunteer?
Of course, Newport and East Cowes at least have had two different library buildings over the years so both please.
Please note, we are not asking for comments about the library closure plans, this is simple an attempt to preserve a historic record of the library service begun by the Seely Family.
Many thanks, Serena Brunke & Dave J.Quigley
