Luke Ellison: Coastal Evolution

Luke Ellison is an Island photographer who seems to be capturing the interest of many on and off the Island.

Luke Ellison: Coastal EvolutionThe fact that Luke works as a coastal engineer is of little surprise when you see the subject of his collections.

His first major exhibition, Coastal Abstraction, took place back in 2008 at Quay Arts Centre. His vibrant collection of coastal images were well received and attracted great attention.

It wasn’t long before his talents were picked up elsewhere and last year his work was featured in Muse Magazine as part of their issue feature on Isle of Wight talent. His shot made the front cover, as well as a special profile inside.

Luke’s latest photographic exhibition at Dimbola Lodge features an enamel series titled ‘Coastal Evolution’.

Here Luke continues to explore “the natural beauty, elemental structures and character of the diverse ever-evolving Isle of Wight Coastline.”

His treatment of images are both innovative and impressive. Take the laser etched fluorescent acrylic, Evo, as an example.

Put this alongside the first ever set of photographic vitreous enamel panels produced by Island company AJ Wells and you can see the creative approach that Luke takes to his work.

His exhibition in the cafe at Dimbola Lodge continues for another week, so if you’re out an about over the weekend, do pop in to take a look.
