Man and dog rescued from freezing water in the River Medina

A report that a man had fallen from his small boat into the River Medina sparked a major response from would-be rescuers, including Cowes lifeboat, on Sunday evening

The incident occurred just upriver from the floating bridge, opposite Ironbridge. The man was in the freezing water for about 20 minutes before being rescued by a Cowes Harbour launch.

Also recovered was the man’s dog, and both were landed at Whitegates pontoon, Cowes.

Cowes lifeboat, which launched just after 6pm, was joined on the shore by Bembridge and Ventnor coastguards. The lifeboat eventually returned to station just before 7pm.
