Man Charged After Arson Reported At Church

HandcuffsPolice can confirm a man was charged this week after an investigation into reports of arson at a church on the Isle of Wight.

A 23 year old man, from Sandown, was charged with arson. He was bailed to appear at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on January 3, 2012.

Others re-bailed
A 28-year-old man from Newport, Isle of Wight and a 15-year-old boy from Newport, Isle of Wight were both re-bailed until January 3, 2012 pending further enquiries.

Three other men, aged 18, 20 and 24, from the Isle of Wight were released from police bail with no further action.

Police would like to thank members of the public who came forward with information after officers were called to St Mary’s the Virgin Church in Carisbrooke near Newport at 5.30pm on Sunday, November 27, 2011.
