Police received a call shortly after 1pm today (Friday, February 13, 2015) to a fire at Tredegar House, Wood Street, Ryde, Isle of Wight.
Initial enquiries are underway to establish the cause and circumstances of the fire.
We’re now in a position to confirm that one man has died.
Formal identification and a post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course.
Other residents have been evacuated to Ryde police station where they are giving witness statements to police.
No arrests have been made.
We hope to re-open Wood Street within the next hour.
