Many Parents Yet To Return School Admissions

Almost half of parents of children who are due to start a new school in September 2008 are yet to return their school admission forms ahead of the 30 November deadline. Application packs were sent via schools and pre-schools to mums and dads of the 4000+ children who will transfer or begin school in just ten months time.

It is very important that the forms are received by Isle of Wight Council’s Admissions Office at County Hall in Newport by 4’30pm on 30 November. Parents should not return them direct to schools.

Isle of Wight Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People Cllr Alan Wells said “I would urge any parents who have not yet applied for a school place to do so. This can be done either by post or online via EduWight which can be accessed through Isle of Wight Council’s website. Before you know it, the deadline will suddenly arrive, so by getting the admission form handed in within good time is very important”

The opportunity to complete the application form online is available via Isle of Wight Council’s education website EduWight which can be accessed through www.iwight.com. Parents who apply online will be emailed a confirmation that their application form has been received electronically. The deadline for completing an online form is also 4’30pm on 30 November.

Admission to high schools for September 2008 WILL NOT be affected by the Council’s proposals for possible changes in the organisation of schools. At this stage no decision about the future of any school has been made by the Council. Whichever choice is made, pupils entering Year 9 in September 2008 WILL be able to complete their GCSE course on the same site.

If parents are applying for their child to attend a church aided primary or middle school, they must include that school in their preferences and also obtain a supplementary form from the school concerned. This form must be returned to the school and not the council’s Admissions Office.

If parents want confirmation that their application form have been received by the Council, they need to send a stamped addressed envelope along with the form and an acknowledgement will be sent.

Parents will be sent a letter, or an email if the form was completed online, confirming the school where their child has been reserved a place on 3 March 2008. Anyone with any queries should ring the Admissions Office by telephoning 823455 or emailing [email protected]
