We’ve had a number of On The Wight readers contact us this evening to tell us ‘something’ is happening in Compton (Thanks to Carrie-Anne Lane, who was the first).
The Coastguard and the Fire brigade confirm an incident is occurring, first reported at 7:15 this evening. Both services refer us to the Police, but they are remaining tight-lipped.
Police will only confirm that they have a lot officers there. There was some talk of a road accident.
It’s been reported to us that the roads around the area are closed.
What other details have you heard?
Update 22:56: This is from local resident Shaun Cuff, “I drove along Military Road at 7:15ish. Lots of police vehicles and officers with torches in field by zed bend before Compton.”
Matthew Jay said, “AIS was showing coastguard heli was in the area about an hour ago.”
