Level42-ing, slap bass-a-rama, Mark King was on the One Show last night, getting the Isle of Wight some good exposure on this prime time BBC show.
The Island looked quite lovely as Carrie Grant introduced her interview with Mark, sailing in to Cowes saying, “Laid back, relaxed, they like to call it the Sunshine Isle”, all in the blazing sun.
Via a stride through an equally sunny field, viewers were transformed to the interview in what, we assume, is Mark’s garden. Again, the sun was drenching everything.
Vera Lynn an inspiration
There Mark revealed that the musical inspiration for the band’s monster hit, Lessons in Love, was from the Vera Lynn song “We’ll meet again”, which he used to often play as a fifteen year old band member, entertaining holiday makers in the holiday camps around the Island.
The leaving of fellow-Islanders, the Gould brothers – Phil and Boon – and the subsequent break up of the band came towards the end.
Back in the TV studio …
Back in the TV studio, they played a game of Name That Tune, with Mark twanging his bass.
All of this some great publicity for the Island – and it can’t have hurt in raising the profile of Mark’s upcoming tour of course.
