Mark Morriss of The Bluetones comes to the Island at the end of the month, playing the Wight Rock Bar on 28th May.
Mark is best known for fronting 90’s number 1 selling Brit Pop-ers The Bluetones although not one to be pigeonholed Mark has carved out a critically acclaimed career as a solo artist too.
The Bluetones, a band loved by many, had a number of top 40 hits most famous of which being Slight Return and Solomon Bites the Worm.
Renowned for sharp wittiscms and audience interaction
Mark’s solo album, Memory Muscle, was released in 2008 and is a gentler, folk tinged recording which includes five re-recorded tracks which had previously been released under the name “Fi-Lo Beddow” as an EP in February 2006. The strings on the record were arranged by world famous music arranger David Arnold, who became a fan of Expecting to Fly whilst scoring the music for the huge box office smash, Independence Day.
Mark’s shows are renowned for his sharp wittiscms and audience interaction and feature a mixture of Bluetones hits along with many solo penned future classics too. Being Mark’s first visit to the Island he is highly looking forward to the evening and hopes that this performance will be one of many more to come.
This promises to be a delightful and entertaining show packed with humour and great tunes alike in one of the Island’s most intimate venue. Mark will be supported by local artists Gareth Ashworth and Charlotte-Jayne Gilpin.
You can check out Mark playing his solo stuff and dipping in to some Bluetones classics on Saturday the 28th May 2011 at The Wight Rock Bar, Lind Street, Ryde, Isle of Wight, PO33 2NE.
