Following our report on Wednesday morning that members of the IOW branch of the National Autistic Society (NAS) were concerned with Cllr Roger Mazillius‘s statement regarding the consultation on Autism services, we’re pleased to be able to provide an update.

She told us that Cllr Mazillius went along to the launch event, ‘Autism Participation – Have Your Say!’ on Wednesday with one of the Media and Web Publishing Officers (formerly known as a press officer) in tow.

She was pleased that after some discussion with Cllr Mazillius, he seemed to take on board all the points and concerns of the members of the group.

“I regret that my original comments were not interpreted in the way they were intended”
Following the meeting, she was forwarded the following message.

Roger Mazillius, Isle of Wight Council cabinet member responsible for adult social care said “I regret that my original comments were not interpreted in the way they were intended. What was meant was that with personal budgets becoming more widely used; individuals, their families and our community will be empowered to work with the local authority and other providers enabling them to make choices and design person centred support that meets their individual needs.”

“We want to develop a strategy that meets the needs of those who live with autism and improve services we already have, and the launch event was a very successful day. The consultation runs until 19 December and I would encourage anyone who wishes to have their say to log on to iwight.com or contact the council and take part in the consultation.”
