Bumper fundraising year for ploughing match
Organisers and supporters of the annual event – held this year at New Wolverton Farm by kind permission of Professor and Mrs Williams – attended the Hospice on Friday (24) to hand the money over.
Cash was harvested in a number of ways including ploughmen donating a minimum of £5 to enter, from car parking revenue and from refreshments sold on the day.
Further money was raised from a ‘How many balloons in a red tractor’ competition, a raffle, and from donations made from the takings of other on-site concessionaires.
Organiser Karen Sheath said:
“I would like to thank everyone who helped us organise such a successful event that again raised such a good total for the Hospice. That includes Red Funnel who sponsored the travel of heavy horses to the Island, all the volunteers, and of course the ploughmen and spectators.
“It is good to think that the match, which is a memorial to the ploughman that we have lost over the past years, still means so much to so many people. The fact that we can also raise so much money for charity is an added bonus.”
Receiving the money on behalf of the Hospice was Dani Johnson, event fundraiser at EMH.
She said:
“We are delighted that the Memorial Ploughing Match was again so successful and that, once again, such a marvellous amount of money was raised. A big thank you to all involved.”
