Options For Future Of Military Road Go On Public DisplayThe Isle of Wight Council is giving residents more time to submit comments about the future of the Military Road.

The consultation period is being extended until midnight on Monday 6 September to enable more people to find out about the proposed options and complete the survey which is available online or at a display at Brighstone Library.

To date, over 120 online surveys have been completed and the mobile exhibition unit has been visited by more than 250 people.

The options being considered include building a new section of road, maintaining the existing road, diverting traffic and a new bypass for Brook.

Part of Military Road (A3055) was reduced to single lane traffic for safety reasons earlier this year after a number of landslips saw the cliff receding to the edge of the highway.

A number of issues will need to be considered when deciding the future of the road. This includes the ownership of the land and important national conservation policies, high cost, the value of the road to residents and tourists, and future planning issues.

The information has been included in a mobile exhibition which has been on display throughout August at various locations across the Island including Freshwater, Compton Bay, Brook and at the Chale Show.

An unmanned display unit will continue to be displayed at various locations along the Military Road. A display at Brighstone Library will remain in place, hard copies of the questionnaire are also available in the library.

Alternatively, comments can still be made via the council’s website on the council website where you can see the entire exhibition and complete the on-line the feedback form.

Comments will then be considered by the council as part of its decision making process.
