Martin Piper:

‘Military Two Step’ a good warm up for cycling festival

Thanks to Alan for this report from the VRCC. Ed

Twelve riders signed on for the so called ‘Military Two Step’ 15.5 mile Time Trial, which runs from the Brook Junction with the Military Road, round the Blackgang Chine Roundabout and back.

This course is always interesting, due to the winds along the coast, normally you get the prevailing South Westerly, or very occasionally an Easterly, but today we were treated to a Northerly blast that made the Time Trial a bit ‘dodgy’ in places for those with deep section rims on their bikes, as the side winds buffeted the riders going out and coming back.

The leaders
The ‘James’ boys from Wightlink LCM Systems RT were victorious, with James Brett winning in the fast time of 37:46, closely followed by James Ebdon in 38:33.

Martin Piper of Wightlink/Offshore RT was a creditable third in 39:15.

Despite the wind everyone enjoyed this final event before the Vectis Roads Three Day Time Trial Festival, that takes place over the 4/5/6th May early Bank Holiday weekend.
