Last minute reminder. Comments on the Mill Bay close in less than three hours – at 4pm.
Doing so is easy, thanks to the simplicity of the IW council Web site. Simply head over to the page, or direct to the comments form and fill out the form.
As this weeks Chronicle says on page 3, if you put in comments last time, you’ll have to do it again as this application has a different reference number. If your points from last time are still valid, you should be able to use the same letter, and just alter the reference number TCP/08040/P, P/00825/07.
One of the letters was from Mike Wootton, who illustrated his point by using a photograph. He kindly agreed for VentnorBlog to reproduce his submission which you can see below.
Mike was keen to point out that this is an estimation that he reached by measuring the height of the current Mill Bay and scaling it against the proposed height of the new building.
His submission was as follows
I have superimposed points A, B and C on each illustration. It can be clearly seen that the height of the development would have a considerable detrimental effect on the view both up to the town from the shore and of the shore from the town.
It may well be said that this is a most inaccurate way of presenting the objection. I have tried to take problems of perspective into consideration, but even accepting an error of plus or minus 10% it can be seen that the result of such a development on what is essentially a small shore line would be considerable. It would certainly not attract visitors and therefore be of little benefit to the town.
and by popular request, a close up …
While you’re in the writing mood, pop over to comment on the Conservation area consent that will be require to be passed to pull the old Mill Bay down.
