Mini driver arrested on suspicion of drink/drug driving after collision with Police van (updated)

Two police officers and one driver were taken to hospital last night, following a road traffic incident in Sandown.

Isle of Wight police officer, Sgt Mark Radford, was compelled to post reassurance to social media, following speculation in the public domain.

He confirmed that the driver of a Mini, who failed to stop at a Give Way junction, had been arrested on suspicion of drink/drug driving.

The passenger in the Mini and the two police officers were taken to hospital and all next of kin were informed.

The incident took place at the junction of Fitzroy Street / Leed Street in Sandown.

He states the police vehicle was on normal patrol at the time to of the collision.

The driver of the Mini Cooper has now been arrested and charged.
