Woman from Shanklin arrested following collision with Isle of Wight Police van

Policer have now charged the driver of the vehicle that collided with a police car in Sandown last night (Thursday).

The collision, between a Mini Cooper and a patrolling police vehicle, took place at the junction of Leed Street and Fitzroy Street at around 7.15pm last night.

Passenger remains in hospital
As reported by News OnTheWight earlier today, two police officers were taken to hospital following the collision, but have since been discharged.

Police say the passenger of the Mini, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. These are not deemed life-threatening.

Arrested and bailed
The driver, a 32-year-old from Atherley Park Way in Shanklin, has been charged with drink driving, driving without insurance, and driving without a valid test certificate.

The woman has been bailed to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on 4th February.
