Huge congratulations are in order for Islander, Peter May, who last week completed his marathon Walk in Her Shoes challenge.
We use the word marathon, because that’s what Peter walked, 26 miles in high-heeled stilettos!

Tour of the Island
Readers may remember Pete from News OnTheWight’s report back in the Spring of this year when it was revealed he’d walked 13 miles in stilettos raising more than £6,500 for the Island’s domestic abuse hub, Wight Dash.
Amazingly Pete didn’t stop there and has been touring the Island for the last few months, with his final challenge taking place last Sunday when he set off from Ryde Castle at 7.45am, in the pouring rain, with Sarah Tyrrell-Jones – one of the many supporters who would join Peter as he walked 26 miles in stiletto heels.
May: We were off to a flyer
Pete explains,
“We were off to a flyer and were soon underway and clocking the miles at around 8.30 we were met by Julia Tostevin. These two amazing ladies would never leave my side again until I was over the finish line.
“We were making good time and good miles by the time we met Michael Lilley, the Mayor of Ryde at the Ryde Castle and what a sport he was. Michael got zipped into his stiletto boots and we were off for a wander along Ryde front in our heels.”
Throughout the walk Pete was joined by many others, all there to give him moral support along the way.
Felt ‘done’ by mile 20
As you can imagine, at 20 miles Pete says he “felt done”.
“I had underestimated what a challenge I had taken on. Sarah was awesome she drove me on and Dawn was by my side holding on, Nathan was willing me on and my daughter Adele was on my other side.
“At 21 miles the amazing Keith Huxted, now dressed as the grim reaper, took her place trying to take my mind off the pain.”
He went on to say,
“During mile 22, Keith and Adele were propping me up as Sarah did all she could to get us through the next couple of miles with support from Hanna and Julia we managed to get to the Castle at 24 miles.
“At this point I had nothing left in the tank and everyone wanted me back in the castle. I’m afraid I then told everyone to ignore phones and messages and we stumbled off as far from the Castle as I could get down to Appley Tower so that on our final approach meant we would get to the Castle at 26 miles. Well the plan worked and in the way back Sarah announced 25 miles.”
May: My supporters are all heroes
After another three laps around the Castle, to clock the extra mileage needed to ensure, the marathon was complete.
It was then into the Castle for a grand reception, where Pete was greeted by all his other supporters, sponsors, bands and the WightDash team.
“My amazing team had done it for me, without them I would of failed but with them I achieved my goal.
“They are all total heroes I love them all.”
