Mountbatten Isle of Wight and Mountbatten Hampshire celebrated a double win at the prestigious Smiley Charity Film Awards 2025, held on Thursday, 20 March, at the indigo at the O2 in London. The charity’s powerful film, Without Mountbatten, was awarded a Bronze Judges’ Award and a Silver People’s Choice Award, marking a significant achievement in its history of recognition at the event.
Nigel Hartley, Mountbatten CEO, said:
“This is a brilliant achievement for our Mountbatten team and creative partners, NOSY Creative Agency. The message this film carries has never been more important—highlighting the critical funding challenges faced by Mountbatten and hospices across the country. The opportunity to bring this message to a national audience is invaluable.”
The Smiley Charity Film Awards, dubbed the “Oscars of charity film,” is the world’s largest cause-based film campaign, recognised by BFI and IMDb. Over 500 charities entered the 2025 awards, with around 250 making it to the finals.
This year’s awards were particularly notable for Mountbatten, as it received its first-ever Judges’ Award and its first Silver People’s Choice Award, having previously won a Bronze People’s Choice Award in both 2023 and 2024.
Competing in the £15 million – £50 million turnover category, Mountbatten stood alongside some of the UK’s most prominent national charities, including Breast Cancer Now, Elton John AIDS Foundation, Parkinson’s UK, RNID, Samaritans, and ShelterBox. The Gold Judges’ Award in this category was awarded to SCOPE, while SSAFA, the Armed Forces Charity, received the Silver Judges’ Award.
The judges praised Without Mountbatten for its emotional impact and storytelling, stating,
“This film provides a stunning visual representation of the impact on people’s lives Mountbatten has.”
