Mountbatten Isle of Wight has received an unexpected financial boost this week, courtesy of Southern Vectis.
The local bus operator, which named Mountbatten as its official good cause for 2024 and 2025, has been working to raise funds and awareness for the charity. Mountbatten provides round-the-clock care and support to thousands of Islanders in their homes, at its hospice in Newport and at St Mary’s Hospital.
A generous follow-up donation
Earlier this year, Southern Vectis donated £23,000 to Mountbatten. Now, the company has added an additional £2,270 to its contribution.
Richard Tyldsley, Southern Vectis general manager, explained the origins of this latest donation. He said,
“Our team members are behind this latest donation.”
Team feedback inspires giving
As part of its commitment to staff engagement, Southern Vectis conducts an annual anonymous online survey. Richard added,
“Many don’t necessarily like face-to-face meetings.
“So we carry it out anonymously online. As an added incentive, we pledge to make a donation to our charitable cause for every team member who takes part.”
The funds raised through this survey incentive have now been passed on to Mountbatten, a vital service supporting Islanders with end-of-life care and bereavement support for relatives and friends.
A community-focused initiative
Richard emphasised the significance of Mountbatten’s work. He said,
“Mountbatten is a crucial local resource, supporting people with death and dying, and also offering relatives and friends free bereavement support.”
He added that his colleagues had chosen Mountbatten as their official good cause and said he was delighted to enhance their support with this additional donation.
