World’s largest cause-based film campaign
Recognised by the British Film Institute (BFI) and IMDb, the Smiley Charity Film Awards is the world’s largest cause-based film campaign, celebrating films that inspire positive social change.
As NHS funding struggles to meet growing demand, Mountbatten remains a lifeline for 4,000 people every day, in homes and hospices across the Isle of Wight and in large parts of Hampshire. Mountbatten staff continue to provide expert, free care and support, during life’s most difficult moments.
This lifeline is under threat
‘Without Mountbatten’ poses a vital question: Who will support families living with death, dying and bereavement, if Mountbatten cannot?
Set in a dimly-lit industrial building, the film sees patients, staff and volunteers talk of their experiences of Mountbatten. The darkness is punctuated by bright yellow balls being dropped into a glass tube. What would these contributors have done without the Mountbatten’s support?
YOUR vote is crucial in securing Mountbatten’s place in the 2025 finals of the Smiley Charity Film Awards, helping highlight the critical funding crisis faced by Mountbatten and hospices like it, across the UK.
Mountbatten worked with the Isle of Wight’s Nosy Creative Agency to produce ‘Without Mountbatten.’
Hartley: A vital platform to raise awareness

“‘Without Mountbatten’ highlights the critical role Mountbatten plays in supporting people through death, dying, and bereavement.
“The Smiley Charity Film Awards gives us a vital platform to raise awareness of the funding challenges facing hospices like ours and to ensure that end-of-life care remains accessible to everyone who needs it.”
Mountbatten is competing alongside renowned organisations including Parkinson’s UK, Refuge, Samaritans and the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
