MP loses campaign manager and agent before re-election launch

Last month Cllr Chris Whitehouse announced the 2015 General Election campaign team for Isle of Wight Conservative MP, Andrew Turner.

He said,

Andrew is now moving full steam ahead to launch his campaign in January with Keith Hook as his Campaign Manager, Mike Rooke as his Agent, and me stepping up to support him with his media campaign.

First Hook, then Rooke
Last week it was revealed that Keith Hook had resigned from the post of Campaign Manager and today (Monday), less than a month since Cllr Whitehouse’s announcement, OnTheWight has been informed that Mike Rooke has also resigned from the team.

Cllr Whitehouse advised OnTheWight this morning that Mike Rooke’s reasons for resigning were personal.

Following publication of this report, Mr Rooke told the CP he, “had stepped down to help his daughter launch a cycling business in France”.

In a leaked internal letter to the Isle of Wight Conservative Association last month, Chairman, Alan Wells, told members that Keith Hook had resigned due to ‘intolerable pressure’ at an election campaign meeting.

On the bright side, there’ll be two more seats now available at the “restricted access ” Press conference next week…

These Tories like to make it difficult for themselves eh?

It must be crystal clear to anyone who cares that some in the party are determined to see Andrew Turner lose.

Politics has a bad enough reputation, memberships still fall. What normal person would want to be in a club with some of these people?

Mr Rooke has “stepped down to help his daughter launch a cycling business in France”.

‘Andrew is now moving full steam ahead to launch his campaign in January’. Well done Andrew.

With a majority he has he does not need them.

If Allan Wells et all are so unhappy perhaps they should all resign for the sake of party unity and go and find something else to do.

Mmmm! But jumping or pushed? See Conservative Party Constitution Part VII para 52 on Area Management of local Associations: ” If the Area Management Executive resolves that a Supported Association within its Area is failing to co-operate with any appointed representative or failing to make reasonable efforts to improve its performance, the Area Management Executive may require the Supported Association to draw up an Action Plan which… Read more »

You only have to look at the IWCA website to see that Allan Wells is not capable of the role of Chairman. It hasn’t been updated for ages. Just shows how much he and the other trustees really care about the party. Ego’s so big we will need to take cover when they burst.

Anyway, Cllr Whitehouse has evidently chosen a new campaign team, ‘cos they had a ” “great meeting” today. So he says, anyway.

To lose one member of your campaign team may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose two looks like carelessness. Why can’t our MP hang onto his campaign team members, let alone his partner? At least he’s still got Mr Finney as his transport adviser – he won’t betray Turner… I think Ode on melancholy has hit the nail on the head. Perhaps the parrots can take… Read more »

Green – because many conservative supporters are green in a local and household way. And it’s the rational and sensible option on the ballot paper. I support and would vote in Parliament for an In Out EU Referendum. You don’t need to vote UKIP for that.

Why did Mr Rooke really leave the campaign team and how many others have left ? In fact how many are left ? Does the ‘twice Papal Knight ‘ have Super powers to take on all those vacant jobs, and manage the Election campaign launch ? The pre approved questions to be answered in a ‘written ‘ or pre pared answer to be read out to the… Read more »

Interesting analogy with the treatment of the BBC reporter Norman Smith assistan political editor for the BBC at Labour’ election campaign launch on Janaury 5th with Mr Turner’s election campaign launch on 12 Janaury at Riverside Centre. Labour stated that they would conduct their election campaign “in a different way, not stage managed” CW please note ! Will reporters be heckled and jeered at if they dare… Read more »
