Apocalypse girl and Benji Waterstones

Navigating the future: OnTheWight and Book Bus present survival guide for the Modern Age

Mark your calendars, dear readers.

On 23rd July 2023, Ventnor Arts Club will be hosting an event that promises to be enlightening, engaging and – dare we say it – a bit of a hoot.

Brought to you by the collaboration of OnTheWight and the Ventnor Book Bus, we announce with great excitement the return of last year’s sold-out Ventnor Fringe event.

How to Survive the (metaphorical) Apocalypse
Themed as ‘How to Survive the Apocalypse’, this year’s Ventnor Fringe event promises to be a fascinating blend of comedy and serious discussion, as a hand-picked panel of speakers tackle the somewhat daunting task of working out how humanity can survive the numerous challenges we are currently facing.

From climate change and artificial intelligence to toxic politics and the antics of unhinged billionaires, the panel will attempt to provide insights and potentially, solutions to these issues.

Benji Waterstones
Among the panelists is the award-winning comedian and NHS junior doctor, Benji Waterstones, who transitioned from psychiatry to comedy and has been making waves in the stand-up scene. He’ll also be performing at Fringe in a solo show – more about that here.

Benji is not just known for his humorous take on life but also for his contributions to raising mental health awareness.

His writings have been featured in esteemed publications like The Guardian, The Independent, GQ and Chortle.

Heartfelt stories without the usual punchlines
Benji also hosts ‘The Moth’, a storytelling night in London where he shares heartfelt stories without the usual punchlines associated with stand-up comedy.

Adding to his repertoire, his first book titled ‘You Don’t Have To Be Mad To Work Here’ is set to be published by Vintage in Spring 2024 and will be adapted for television by House Productions.

Celebrating the best of human resilience and ingenuity
In the face of adversity, the event aims to foster a sense of community and celebrate the best of human resilience and ingenuity.

As a celebration of humanity and a testament to what people are capable of, the panel discussion promises to be an uplifting and thought-provoking affair.

So, mark the date, and come join us at Ventnor Arts Club. We might just be OK, after all.
