New community hub and library to open in East Cowes

On Thursday 11th August at 11am Mayor of East Cowes, Tracy Reardon, will be carrying out the Official Opening of The East Side Curve.

All are welcome to attend the opening or visit at any time up to 5pm on the day to have a look around this fantastic new facility.

New community hub and library
For anyone unfamiliar with East Cowes, The East Side Curve is the new community hub and library building adjacent to the Town Hall on York Avenue.

Back in July 2021 this ambitious project began with the demolition of the public toilets and old flat roofed extension to the Town Hall.

Transformed site
The site has been transformed and now accommodates an iconic new building that includes a meeting room for 12 people, an accessible ground floor Clerk’s Office, a large multi-purpose community space with kitchen facilities which houses East Cowes Community Library, an outside seating area and three fully-accessible toilets (including two brand new free public toilets on Osborne Road).

The Town Council is proud to have used local architects and contractors throughout the project.

A great venue for members of the community
Whilst the Town Hall is already busy with groups from fitness classes to social and sporting clubs and activities, community cinema, parties and events, the addition of the new building provides scope for much more.

It will be a great venue for members of the community to meet informally, share interests and hobbies as well as being a source of information and signposting to other services for residents and visitors.

Allows for extended opening times
Currently the Town Hall closes at 1pm, but with the opening of The East Side Curve hours will be extended to 9am-5pm Monday to Friday and 9am-1pm on Saturday mornings enabling much more access for the community.

All the spaces at the Town Hall are available for booking on evenings and weekends too.
