The Island’s Newchurch Male Voice Choir welcomed members of the famous Cotswold Male Voice Choir to the Isle of Wight and together they presented a concert with the highest quality of Male Voice Choir singing.
A night of song from both sides of the country
The concert at St Saviours-on-the-Cliff in Shanklin had both Choirs showing their individual talents with Cotswold singing a selection of songs including ‘Let it be me’, ‘Bridge over troubled water’, ‘The Rose’ ‘Going Home’ and ‘When the Saints go marching in’.
Newchurch take to the stage
The Newchurch selection included ‘Let All Men Sing’, The lord is my Shepherd’, ‘If we only had love’, ‘Sweet Caroline’, ‘He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother’, ‘Chattanooga Choo Choo,’ ‘ Sixteen Tons’ and ‘Take me Home’.
Young pianist steals the spotlight
Between these sets, the award winning 11-year-old pianist Kayleigh-Gabbi Tran played four works by Chopin and then the ‘Venetian Boat Song on G-minor by Mendelssohn, A Waltz in A-minor by Chopin, La Chevaleresque in C-major by Burgmuller followed by The Escape in C-major by Miskiewicz.
The Newchurch chairman, Rod Riddel the presented Kayleigh with an award from the Choir’s Bassett-Stevens Award to assist her in her musical career.
Choirs unite for the evening’s finale
The Choirs then joined together for the highlight of the evening singing ‘Morte Criste’ and ‘An American Trilogy’.
£700 raised for Age UK (IW)
With the proceeds of the retiring collection, plus the proceeds of their Christmas Concert at Brighstone, Newchurch will be presenting Age UK (IW) £700 towards their work for the community.

“For the members of Newchurch Male Voice Choir to be able to sing in concert with the renowned Cotswold Male Voice choir was a great pleasure and it showed the quality of the sounds that Male Voice Choirs bring.
“We thank the Cotswold MVC and their supporters for coming to the Island and helping us to raise the funds for Age UK (IOW)”.
