Newport pair of Ollie Coulson and Toby Batchelor pulled off back to back wins at BTC and Woolston regattas last weekend to seal the Hants and Dorset Championship for the Men’s Junior Pair event.
Four straight wins mean they cannot be caught with three events remaining.
Fast off the start
The pair kept to the race plan that has served them well all season, being fast off the start and controlling the race from the front.
The Sunday race saw a bigger fleet on the water as the Junior and Senior races were run together. They showed their strength and good technique as they finished close to the leading Senior boats.
Setting a record
Champagne corks will soon be popping in the old Medina river boat house, as this is the first Newport men’s crew to win a Hants and Dorset Championship in the club’s 158 year history.
Best third place
Toby also completed a busy weekend by making a good showing in the Novice Sculls final with a season’s best third place.
