Readers may remember last summer (August 2023) Newport Rowing Club embarked on a Crowdfunding campaign to raise funds to improve their clubhouse.
Thanks to the Isle of Wight community, they had a brilliant response to the campaign, and with the help of Sport England raised over £10,000.
Over the last eight months all of the planned work has been completed. This included underpinning the building with steel supports; replacing the slipway, as well as an internal refurbishment of the clubroom. Where necessary they engaged professionals, but much of the labour was generously provided by club members.
Julie Clarke, on behalf of Newport Rowing Club explained,
“We are showing off the completed work to the community at an open morning on Monday 6th May between 9.30am and 12 noon.
“We will also be demonstrating our rowing offering to the community. A limited number of taster sessions can be booked, by emailing [email protected]
“We would love to see as many visitors as possible, free tea and coffee will be available, so why not have a stroll along by the river and come and see us.”
