Angela Ticehurst got in touch with us this afternoon and wanted for us to pass on a message to those taking part in the Beach clean at Grange Chine tomorrow – Ed.
I am aware there is going to be a Beach clean at Grange Chine tomorrow 2pm – 4pm, organised by Surfers Against Sewage.
I happened to be there today walking my dog, when I came across a guillemot struggling in the rough shallows (you can imagine how wild it was down there today in this wind!) He was unable to fly and was covered in oil.
RSPCA help
I managed to capture him (getting rather wet in the process), wrapped him in my scarf and took him to the RSPCA. They will weigh him, clean him up and release him if he recovers.
He’s a beautiful seabird, fingers crossed he makes it.
So I thought maybe with your powers of getting news spread quickly you could help. I wanted to make those who are taking part in the beach clean and anyone else who will be in the south coast area, aware that there could well be more oil damaged birds washed up.
If found, they should be wrapped in something to keep them warm and to prevent them flapping and taken to the RSPCA to be cleaned.
Finally well done in advance to all those taking part in the beach clean, it’s a brilliant contribution to keeping our lovely Isle clean.
