Organisations Invited To Stage Diamond Jubilee Event

Police blue lightTo celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012, the Isle of Wight Council is looking for an organisation to stage a family-friendly event at Appley Park and beach which will form the focus of the Island’s celebrations over the bank holiday weekend between 2 and 5 June 2012.

The council is keen to support what will be an historic national event, while maintaining its commitment to focus its financial resources on core services. It is offering organisations the opportunity to provide a first class event at one of the Island’s top seafront venues.

This would be under a similar arrangement to how the Parade area is managed by a specialist events company on behalf of the council during Cowes Week.

Inviting initial proposals
The council is inviting organisations to submit initial proposals outlining how they would stage an event which is to be free to members of the public and reflect the Island’s royal heritage, history and patronage.

The council is asking organisations to submit proposals based on no council funding although the council may consider providing limited funding should an outstanding proposal be received.

What proposals should include
Initial proposals should explain how the event would align with national jubilee events taking place and offer a wide range of family-friendly activities and entertainment involving residents from across the Island.

The beachside venue has successfully staged a number of events in the past and the council feels it would make an ideal location for the Island’s official Jubilee celebration.

An event residents can be proud of
Cllr David Williams, Chairman of the Isle of Wight Council and Chair of the Island’s Diamond Jubilee Organising Committee, said: “Appley Park and beach is a superb location and really lends itself to a family event. We are looking for an organisation to stage an event Island residents can be proud of as the nation celebrates the Queen’s 60 years on the throne.”

The full specification schedule and guidelines for the completion of an Expression of Interest can be found at iwight.com/jubilee.

Expressions of Interest are to be returned to the council no later than noon on Monday 26 September 2011. It is expected that the preferred supplier will be appointed by no later than 31 October 2011.
