Owner’s plans to turn popular local hot spot into two flats

The owners of a property on Ventnor seafront, which has over the last 20 years been home to several popular and successful pubs and restaurants businesses is planning to convert the ground floor into two flats.

Once the Richmond Hotel, the building was converted into flats and a pub nearly 20 years ago.

Plans have been submitted by Stag Rock (Ventnor) Ltd, a company based in St Anne’s in Lancashire set up in 2019, who intend to turn the restaurant into two two-bedroom flats.

“Some distance from the town centre”
Most recently the building was known for the popular local hot spots, Ale and Oyster and Hello Sailor, but the application claims that the current tenants have been unable to sustain a viable restaurant there.

The application goes on to claim,

The building is away from the commercial frontage and certainly some distance from the town centre.

It is the only commercial affair within an otherwise residential frontage immediately west of Alma Road.

According to the planning agents, there is a lack of commercial bin storage, the toilets are in an awkward position and there is no commercial gas supply in the kitchen.
