A number of parking restrictions are now in operation to assist traffic flow along the diversion route in place for the temporary closure of Leeson Road.
The measures follow discussions between the IW Council and Island Roads and are designed to allow traffic to flow more freely in both directions along the diversion.
Parking restrictions in Ventnor and Wroxall
Full details are below but the measures introduce temporary parking restrictions in Ocean View Road and Newport Road in Ventnor and Clarence Road and St John’s Road in Wroxall.
The restrictions take into account lessons learned following the previous closure of Leeson Road following the major landslide of December 2023 and in particular will help safe and efficient travel for emergency vehicles if needed, and reduce the likelihood of traffic build-up.
Residents are respectfully requested to observe the restrictions to contribute to the smooth operation of the traffic management.
In place during Leeson Road closure
The measures will be in place for the duration of the current engineering works in Leeson Road which are expected to last up to ten weeks [Although council leader Phil Jordan says it will more likely be 4-6 weeks. Ed]. The works involve sinking three deep boreholes so the ground conditions can be assessed and further monitoring equipment installed.
The current work is a crucial step in allowing the council and Island Roads to put in place an early warning system that will allow the safe re-opening of Leeson Road.
The restrictions
The restrictions are as follows:
- Ocean View Road, Ventnor between its junction with Gills Cliff Road and its junction with Zig Zag Road, where indicated by no waiting cones on site outside of 32 – 44 Ocean View Road, on the northern side, removing four parking bays.
- Newport Road, Ventnor between its junction with Lowerville Road and its junction with St Margrets Glade, where indicated by no waiting cones, on the north eastern side, removing all on street parking.
