Man charged following assault on Isle of Wight PCSO

A man has been today (Sunday, September 13) been charged with assault following an incident in which a police community support officer sustained serious facial injuries.

Intervened in altercation
Shortly after 7.30pm last night (Saturday, September 12) the PCSO went to intervene in an altercation between a man and a woman outside the White Hart pub in East Cowes when he was hit in the face.

The PCSO, who is in his 40s, was taken to hospital in Portsmouth where he has undergone surgery for injuries to his mouth.

Charged and bailed
The 30 year old from Southsea, has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He has been bailed to appear before magistrates at Newport on October 2.

Local police inspector Terry Clawson said:

“We are doing everything we can to support the injured community officer, hurt in the course of his duties protecting the community he serves.”
