At the bottom of this article is the response from the Isle of Wight council to the question (below) that VB asked the council a week ago.
VentnorBlog asked, “Could you find out from those that know what the Notices around Pell Lane Rec are about please. Are the IWC intending to pass Pell Lane Rec to Ryde High?”
Here’s the response we just received …
Janet Newton, IW Council Head of School’s Infrastructure Project Director said “At present, Pell Lane Recreational Ground is designated as an open space, although part of the ground is used and maintained by Ryde High as a school playing field.
“From 1 September this year, the current Ryde High site, including its playing fields will transfer to AET. However, this will not affect the current designation of Pell Lane, which will remain as an open space for continued public use.
“The signs were put up by IW Council as part of the legal process relating to access to school sites as part of the move to transfer ownership of the school site to AET. This is required as part of a recent change in legislation.
“While Pell Lane is an open space and will remain so after AET take control of the Ryde High site and its playing fields, part of Pell Lane is used by the school. The council has erected the signs to confirm it is the legal owner of the land and public can continue to use it, hence the references to public rights of way not being affected.”
