Extended period of grace to settle into new waste collection system

The council shares this waste update. Ed

Until May 27 2016, Amey will be collecting all recycling on recycling day and rubbish on rubbish day as long as the recycling/ waste is set out on the correct day, whilst residents are getting used to the new system and bins are still being delivered.

Residents who use a communal bin stores, for example those who live in a block of flats, should continue to place their recycling and waste out for collection as they have done previously, on their allocated collection day until further notice.

Communal assessments
As part of the new waste collection services, Amey and the Isle of Wight Council will be carrying out a separate assessment of all communal bin stores on the Island, to review how the new process can be made easier for all residents to be able to recycle more.

Depending on the facilities and space available, this could see new, separate bins being provided for recycling and general household waste, on a case-by-case basis.

Making recycling easier
Paul Southall, Director for Amey on the Isle of Wight, said:

“We have just begun the new collection services for households using their new green bin paper/card inserts, their new black bins or their new gull proof sacks.

“We’re keen to help residents who use communal bin stores to be able to join in a recycle more too, making it easier to recycle as much as possible for everyone on the Island. We will begin assessments of these areas over the coming weeks.”

As part of the ongoing education programme Amey collection crew will be leaving bin hangers to inform residents if there is an issue that needs to be rectified before the next collection round.

No side waste
From Monday the 30 May the “no side waste” policy will be enforced and mixed recycling (paper/card/magazines in with plastic/glass/metal and vice-versa) will not be collected, bin hangers will be attached to explain the reason for non-collection.

We request that residents do use the receptacles they have been provided as advised in the Household Recycling and Waste Collection booklets.
