Commander Chris Hadfield saying hello to the Isle of Wight - Tim Pritchard

A personal message to the Isle of Wight from Cmdr Chris Hadfield

Readers may remember the amazing photo of the Isle of Wight from the International Space station (ISS) taken back in March 2013.

It was captured by Chris Hadfield, the first Canadian astronaut to have the honour of Commanding the ISS.

Yesterday (Sunday) Islander Tim Pritchard met Cmdr Hadfield at a book signing in Piccadilly, London.

Tim managed to get Cmdr Hadfield to say a special hello just for Islanders which he videoed (see below).

He told OnTheWight,

“He’s a genuinely really really lovely man, took time to talk to everyone as much as his time would allow, and even bellowed out a very loud rendition of Happy Birthday for someone.

“I thanked him for making space ‘cool’ again.

“It’s nice to see people looking up to people like Cmdr Hadfield, men of science and education … even nicer that he’s such a nice man, not one of the latest selfish so called ‘celebrities’ that people idolise.”

Here’s a reminder of the brilliant video Cmdr Hadfield made whilst in space

However, I am concerned if a company that is responsible for the maintenance of our roads all of a sudden seems to be… Read more »

Should be permanent.

It is permanent already with the old dodders using the northbound overtaking lane all the way from Coppins bridge as the road to the hospital. Perhaps there should be an age limit instead of a speed limit.
