County Hall:

Plans for plant hire move to Brickfields rejected

A change of use planning application, recommended for approval by officers, was last night (Tuesday) rejected by the Isle of Wight planning committee.

The application would have seen plant hire company Reynolds and Read move from their current Blackwater base, to the former Brickfields tourist attraction in Binstead.

Concerns over traffic
However, the application had attracted huge opposition from nearby residents who argued the roads were not suitable for the levels of heavy plant vehicles that would travel to and from the base.

Over 300 comments were lodged with the council about the application.

Six votes to two
The CP report it was decided the plans would have an unacceptable impact on the rural area, and the application was rejected by six votes to two, with one abstention.
