Plastic Mermaids, Polaroids: Be one of the first to see new video

Long-time OnTheWight readers will know that we’re big fans of Isle of Wight five-piece band, Plastic Mermaids.

We first heard them through Soundcloud many moons ago and then have been lucky enough to see them play live on several occasions. We love the mix of indie, classical, synth and pop that runs through their tracks and the glimpses you get into somebody else’s life through the poetic lyrics.

Polaroids
Their debut single, Polaroids, is a brilliant example. You’re taken on a musical journey, the tempo building up along the way, with lyric that many can easily relate to (reminding you of things you’d forgotten),

“I know we never hang out much these days, feels like nothing’s really changed, the polaroid of us in school still blu-tacked to my wall.”

and

“Now working a 9-5 career, I only see you from my bicycle as you ride on the train to the pier.”

Spanking brand-new video
For sometime, the video to accompany Polaroids was one shot in their make-shift studio. It was a several camera job, pieced together to show the contribution of each member of the band. This video disappeared a while ago from YouTube, but thankfully has now been replaced with the official Polaroids video. And pretty brilliant it is too.

A mixture of stop-motion animation, crazy musical surfing antics and hours of origami, the video perfectly sums up the creative buzz around this band.

See them live
You can see them play live at Quay Arts on Saturday 1st March. Tickets are just £4 in advance, but be quick there’re aren’t many left.

In the meantime, put your feet up, turn up the volume on your speakers and soak up the Plastic Mermaids.

Plastic Mermaids release their debut EP, Drømtorp, 31st March through Cross Keys.
