Tigers arguingPolice are appealing for more information from the community as an investigation continues into an assault reported on the Isle of Wight.

It’s alleged a 25-year-old man from the Isle of Wight was attacked by another man in the Vectis Road area of East Cowes between 8.10pm and 8.30pm on Monday, October 3, 2011.

The victim was taken to hospital to be treated for head injuries, which are serious but not life-threatening.

Ventnor man arrested
A 36-year-old man from Ventnor, Isle of Wight was arrested on Tuesday October 4, 2011 on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent.

He was questioned at a police station and bailed until November 18, 2011 pending further enquiries.

Large group of men and women arguing
Investigating officer PC Ben Sharland of the Isle of Wight Targeted Patrol Teams (TPT) said: “Police have made house-to-house appeals within the local community and pursued several leads over the past fortnight, including the arrest of a possible suspect. These initial enquiries suggest there was a large group of men and women arguing in Vectis Road on the evening of Monday, October 3. We believe some of these people will have information that can help our investigation, and bring whoever was responsible to justice.

“This was a serious assault where the consequences could have been far worse for the victim and other people in the local community. I’m urging people who were in Vectis Road that night to come forward and speak with police about what happened.”
