Police were called to Victoria Grove in East Cowes shortly before 1pm today following a collision involving a coach.
The coach was taking children home from school when it was in collision with a tree and a bus shelter. Nobody was standing at the bus shelter at the time.
Medical episode at wheel
Police believe the driver of the coach, a 55-year-old man from Sandown, suffered a medical episode at the wheel.
He was taken to St Mary’s Hospital by ambulance, where he is awaiting treatment. His condition is not life threatening.
Of the 29 children – all aged nine and 10 – on board, six were treated for minor injuries. All parents of children involved have been informed.
There were no serious injuries.
The road was closed for a short time to allow the emergency services to reach the scene.
It remains partially closed while tree surgeons remove the damaged tree and clear the area. It is expected to re-open by 4pm.
