Police Investigation Continues After Scaffolding Fall Death

Police are continuing to investigate the death of a man who fell from scaffolding in Lind Street, Ryde, Isle of Wight.

Officers were called at 6.19pm on Tuesday, 1 March, 2011 by staff at St. Mary’s Hospital in Newport, Isle of Wight after the man was pronounced dead.

Police have been carrying out enquiries at a building site in Lind Street where the fall happened shortly after 3pm on Tuesday, 1 March, 2011.

Next-of-kin and HM Coroner for the Isle of Wight have been informed.

The man who fell from the scaffolding was aged in his 40s and from the Isle of Wight. Police will not be in a position to confirm his identity until all formal identification procedures have been completed.

A post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death is due to take place later today (Wednesday, March 2, 2011).

An inquest will be opened and adjourned in due course.

Police are working with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) because this death is being treated as a possible industrial accident at this time.
