Police Search For Missing Man At Shanklin (updated)

Last night Tracey Coleman reported on VentnorBlog‘s Facebook that there was a “big plane circling over Shanklin Bay.”

Police tapeVB reader Juliette Jenner thought that she though it might have been a Boxer (Police spotter plane). Sound like she was spot on.

Police have yesterday evening (Thursday, August 19) been searching for a man who was reported missing from his home in Shanklin.

Brian Allen, 77, was last seen leaving his home address in the town yesterday morning.

He is described as:

White male
5ft 8ins tall
Black greying, short, curly hair
He was last seen wearing beige trousers, a beige pullover and shoes (colour unknown).

Mr Allen’s car was this evening recovered by police on Luccombe Road.

The coastguard and the police boxer plane were been assisting officers on the ground with their enquiries.

Update: 10.23am: No sooner had we hit the publish button, and this update arrives from the Police.

Police can confirm a man reported missing from his home in Shanklin, Isle of Wight on Thursday, August 19 was found alive this morning (Friday, August 20).

Brian Allen, aged 77, was located in a field in the Shanklin area of the island.

He was taken to hospital where his condition is said to be improving,

Police would like to thank members of the public and HM Coastguard for their assistance with enquiries into his whereabouts.
