In the budget this week, money was put aside additional money to pass to local authorities to treat some of the potholes on local roads.
The South East has £2.8m allocated to it and of that £273,000 is for the Isle of Wight council.
‘This is Hampshire’ picks up on the survey by the Asphalt Industry Alliance which claims that each pothole costs £78 to fill. On that basis the Island would have money to fill around 3,500 potholes – just over half the number that council leader David Pugh said that they had in April.
They also report that the money is ring-fenced and the local authorities will need to publish a report of where the work has been carried out.
