Price Details For New Red Funnel Travel Cards

New prices for travel cards and season tickets starting next month.

Following the news that Red Funnel will be scrapping their Gold, Silver and Green Travel Card products, VB have received price details of the new “all-purpose, multi-route Travel Card”.

New Red Funnel Travel Cards Launch Next MonthJonathan Green, Sales & Marketing Director commented “We have introduced a new reservation system over the last 2 years which has given many advantages to customers. The Gold, Silver and Green travel cards are the last elements to be migrated onto the new system which is now taking place. This has resulted in some changes to meet the travel requirements of Green Travel Card holders and we would encourage customers to contact us so we can help them find the best solution”.

Options for Green Travel Card holders (East Cowes/Southampton service)
Green Travel Card holders are the first group to be affected by the change and are being offered a range of alternatives depending on their individual travel requirements.

A) Season Tickets for daily commuters

7 day, 30 day, 6 month and 12 month Season Tickets are available for foot passengers who commute daily on the Southampton/East Cowes service. They are priced to be comparable with the cost of Green Travel Card crossings before applying a modest fare increase, the first in two years.

  • A 12 month Season Ticket costs £1,420 (£3.11 per crossing based on the holder travelling 228 days a year). This compares favourably with the cost of 456 Green Travel Card crossings at £1,386 and represents a 2.45% increase over 2 years.
  • The cost of a 7 day Season Ticket which gives unlimited travel for 7 days is £64 (£6.40 per crossing if only used Mon-Fri). In comparison, the cost of 10 Green Travel Card crossings (5 returns) is £60 and represents a 6.6% increase over 2 years.

B) Saver Ticket Books for ad-hoc travellers
Saver ticket books are valid for 12 months from the date of issue and are fully flexible with no sailing time restrictions. 40 single tickets are available for the Southampton/East Cowes route (only) for £160 (£4.00 per crossing) which is 5% less than the cost of 40 Green Travel Card crossings at £168

C) Travel Cards for infrequent travelers
A new all-purpose Travel Card can be used to purchase standard foot passenger tickets for both Red Funnel’s routes at a discounted rate of 10%. This reduces the cost of a Red Jet Day Return ticket for Island residents to £15.66 (£7.83 per crossing)
